fact: i feel like shit when i drink cow's milk.
quite the predicament.
solution: decide to make some almond milk at home and see if it tastes better than that shit they sell you in a carton at the market. let's be honest, most of that shit tastes metallicky (yep, that's a word) and just plain gross. i'll take my Honey Nut Cheerios with a side of gross? umm, no thanks.
as it turns out, the homemade stuff tastes way better. dessert like, even.
i've had a few people ask for it, so, i figured i'd share the recipe:
chocolate version made with this. so damn good. |
RAW ORGANIC ALMOND MILK
1/2 cup raw organic almonds (cashews work really well, too)
3 cups filtered water, separated
1tbsp organic agave nectar
1 tsp organic vanilla extract
big pinch of cinnamon
pinch of sea salt
1 tbsp organic coconut or almond oil
(this is optional but it makes it frothy and i like the froth)
soak the almonds (you can use cashews, too) in 1 cup water overnight.
drain the almonds and transfer to a blender
add remaining 2 cups of water
add remaining ingredients
you can add more or less agave and vanilla depending on your tastes. i like more vanilla but less agave. to each their own.
blend it up until it's very smooth*.
no nut chunks. nobody likes nut chunks, am i right?
*you can strain it through a cheese cloth if you don't like the grit but i don't mind it.
again, to each their own.
ENJOY!
